About This Game

Melon Pop is a hands-free chat game for TikTok LIVE. A watermelon sits on a picnic table in a sunny field, and Bert, a nervous, sunburnt picnic dad, stretches a rubber band onto it for every comment in your chat. Every 20 likes add another band and every new follower throws five at once. The big number on stream is BANDS, how many are on the melon right now, and the game runs itself, so you can talk to chat the whole stream.

Nobody knows when it will burst, not even you. Every melon has a secret breaking point that only the ScrollPlay game server knows. As the bands pile up the melon creaks, then cracks, and often starts to leak and tremble while Bert sweats, and whoever's band finally pops it is crowned on screen with their photo and a place in the Hall of Splat. Then Bert wipes the juice off his face and lifts the next melon onto the table. By default the melons grow as the stream goes on: every fifth one is a giant and every tenth a colossal.

Gifts skip Bert's line and throw bands straight on: a Rose throws 3, a Finger Heart 10, a Doughnut a giant gold band worth 25, a Hand Heart a crate of 50 and a Money Gun a Band Blaster that fires 150. A Rosa snips 10 bands off and a Corgi makes Bert work four times faster for 30 seconds. A Galaxy hangs a giant mallet wearing the sender's face over the melon and smashes it when the countdown ends, unless someone sends a Cap for a Hard Hat in time, and a Leon the Kitten turns it into a Golden Melon whose secret breaking point jumps up. Every amount, every breaking point and every pop is worked out on the ScrollPlay game server.

Audience Gift Mapping

Pop it sooner

Rose
Handful — a ball of 3 bands wearing the sender's face flies in and unwinds onto the melon.
Finger Heart
Fistful — a bigger ball unwinds a rapid flurry of 10 bands.
Doughnut
Giant Band — a huge gold band drops over the melon and snaps on: 25 bands at once.
Hand Heart
Crate of Bands — a wooden crate thuds onto the table and 50 bands fountain out onto the melon.
Money Gun
Band Blaster — a toy band gun machine-guns 150 bands onto the melon.
Corgi
Turbo Bert — Bert works four times faster for 30 seconds, his own bands included. Each repeat adds 30 more, up to 2 minutes.
Galaxy
The Mallet — a giant mallet wearing the sender's face hangs over the melon for 15 seconds, then smashes it and the sender is the popper, unless a Hard Hat lands first or is already waiting on it.
Comment
Band — every comment queues one band with the viewer's face for Bert to stretch on, up to 3 waiting per viewer.
Likes
Band — every 20 likes queue one more band for the viewer whose like crossed the line.
Follow
Welcome Bands — each new follower throws a ball of 5 bands onto the melon, once per follower per stream.

Make it last

Rosa
Snip — giant scissors cut the 10 outermost bands off the melon, never below zero. On a bare melon they wait for bands first, and the cracks it already has stay.
Cap
Hard Hat — a hard hat lands on the melon and stops the next Mallet with a BONK. Sent during a Mallet's countdown it saves the melon on the spot; up to three can wait, and a hat on a melon that bursts moves to the next one.
Leon the Kitten
Golden Melon — the melon turns gold with the sender's face on it and its secret breaking point jumps up, so it takes a lot more bands to burst.

These are the default bindings; a gift with no action bound to it does nothing. Every amount and every melon's breaking point are owned by the ScrollPlay server. A gift that arrives while a melon is bursting lands on the next one, and the leftover bands of a gift that pops a melon fly off in the burst. Streamers can rebind any gift in Studio Mode.

Gameplay: one watermelon, the whole chat squeezing

Melon Pop is built around one question that keeps even a quiet viewer watching: whose band will pop it? The breaking point is hidden on purpose, but nothing on screen is faked: the creaks, the cracks and the juice are worked out from the melon's real breaking point, and the waist pinches into an hourglass as the bands pile up. Close to the end Bert slows down and holds each band over the melon before it snaps, and a hot-seat card puts the next viewer's face on screen while everyone waits to see if theirs is the one.

Every pop is a party: the melon bursts in a spray of pink juice, the popper's face goes up on screen, the count of melons popped goes up and the rinds pile up beside the table. The next melon arrives within seconds, so there is no dead air, and with no chat at all Bert adds bands of his own (one every 6 seconds by default), so the game keeps moving without ever inventing a viewer.

Built for TikTok Live streamers

Melon Pop needs no hands: Bert works the line, and every melon pops and gets replaced by itself. In the settings you choose the melon size (Auto picks one from your viewer count), whether melons grow as the stream goes on, how many comment bands each viewer can have waiting, how many likes make a band, how often Bert adds his own, his speed, the Mallet's rescue window and how long a turbo lasts. Studio Mode shows every gift action with its default gift, lets you rebind them and test-fire them before you go live, and the same overlay widgets and scenes work as in every other ScrollPlay game.

Melon Pop — frequently asked questions

Is Melon Pop free, or do I need a Play Pass?

Melon Pop is a Play Pass game, so it needs an active subscription on your ScrollPlay account. The launcher itself is a free Windows download, and your viewers are never charged anything: comments, likes and follows are free, and gifts are only what they choose to send.

How do my viewers play?

They comment. Any comment in your TikTok LIVE chat queues a rubber band with their face on it for Bert to stretch onto the melon, and nothing they type is shown on screen. Each viewer can have up to three bands waiting at a time by default (you can set 1, 3, 5 or 10), and every 20 likes add one more band.

When does the melon pop?

Nobody knows, not even you. Each melon's breaking point is drawn and kept on the ScrollPlay game server and never sent to the game. What everyone can see is how close it is: it creaks, then cracks, and most melons start to leak and tremble before the end, though a few burst with no last warning. A gift can pop it at any moment, and whoever's band or gift does it is the popper.

How does the Mallet work?

A Galaxy hangs a giant mallet with the sender's face over the melon and starts a 15-second countdown (5 to 60 seconds in the settings). If a Hard Hat (a Cap by default) lands before it ends, or one is already waiting on the melon, the mallet bonks off the hat and the melon is saved. Otherwise it smashes the melon and the Mallet's sender is the popper. Bert keeps working during the countdown, so the melon can still pop on its own first, and then the mallet waits for the next melon.

Can I play Melon Pop in the browser?

Yes. Melon Pop plays in your browser on the ScrollPlay web launcher with the same account, and in the free ScrollPlay launcher for Windows.
