About This Game
Holy Steps is a climbing game for TikTok LIVE. You walk a kid up an endless golden stairway into the sky toward the gates of heaven, seen from just behind him, and the sky changes as he climbs: blue sky with floating isles and waterfalls, golden sunset clouds, an aurora twilight and finally a starfield with a palace far above. The big number on stream is STEPS, how high he stands, and it is the score. Hold W to climb, Shift to run and A or D to step across the stairs; switch on Auto run in the settings and he climbs by himself while you talk to chat.

Most gifts are priced in steps, both ways, so a help and a hurt of the same size cancel out exactly, and every hurt lands: there is nothing to dodge. A Finger Heart sprouts Angel Wings that fly him up 50 steps and a Rose's Halo Hop pops him up one, while a TikTok's bomb, a Gold Boxing Gloves' bomb cluster, a Doughnut's ice sheet, Confetti's ram and a Money Gun's Cloud Collapse knock him back 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 steps. There is no floor: below step 0 the stairway carries on down into the cloud sea, and the number turns red. The biggest gifts move wins, not steps: a Leon the Kitten is an instant +1 win as a golden cloud-lift carries him up a whole gate, and Fireworks is an instant −1 win as a golden trapdoor drops him one. Every gift puts the sender's name on screen beside him, and out of the box every 20 likes give him a halo hop up a step and every new follower sets off a tiny bomb that knocks him back one.
A Golden Gate stands every 1,000 steps. In the last 60 steps below it he slows down, cloud steps puff away under him, and the stairway behind him turns into a down escalator that rolls after him: if it catches him, he is swept back 10 steps. Reach the gate and he has to hold it through a 10-second countdown while thunderclouds drift over and zap him: hold it and that's a win, and the next gate rises 1,000 steps higher while he keeps running. A win never sends him back down. When someone sends a Galaxy, a thunderstorm shatters the stairway and drops him back to the last gate he passed, and chat has 30 seconds to send a Guardian Angel (a Hand Heart by default) and bring back exactly what it took. Every stride, hazard, gate and gift amount is worked out on the ScrollPlay game server.

These are the default bindings; a gift with no action bound to it does nothing. Every amount is owned by the ScrollPlay server and every hurt lands on the prop's impact, so there is nothing to dodge: a step gift moves him by exactly that many steps, down into the cloud sea below step 0 if it comes to that, and a win gift moves one win and one whole gate step. Angel Wings ships as a flat 50 steps, and a dynamic heal is an opt-in. Streamers can rebind any gift, change the amounts or create custom actions in Studio Mode.
Gameplay: a climb your chat can bury or bless
Holy Steps is built around one question a viewer stays for even when nobody is gifting: will he outrun the escalator? Far from a gate he runs at full tilt, so knocked-off steps come back in seconds; in the last 60 steps before a gate he slows down, cloud steps puff away under him and the down escalator rolls up behind him. On the gate he has to hold on through a countdown while thunderclouds zap him, so even with no gifts at all he sometimes misses a gate and has to run back up for another try.
A miss is never game over. Swept down by the escalator, zapped off a gate or dropped by a thunderstorm, he picks himself up and keeps running, and a won gate rolls straight on to the next one. Gifts land on top of all of it, so Angel Wings can lift him clear of the escalator and a Cloud Collapse can drop him off a gate in the middle of a hold.

In Holy Steps you walk him up yourself: hold W to climb, Shift to run and A or D to step across the stairs, or switch on Auto run in the settings and he climbs by himself while you talk to chat. Pick the steps between gates (500, 1,000, 2,500, 5,000 or your own number), a difficulty (Chill, Normal or Wild), the Win timer and the Rescue window, and switch on "Disasters wipe your wins" if you want a thunderstorm to take every win too. A WINS counter sits under the goal bar, and NEW ROUND or RESTART FULL GAME start over whenever you like.
The ScrollPlay server, not the game window, owns where he stands, every gift amount, every hazard and every gate, and it books each gate he holds as a win. The number your audience watches climb is the number the server counted.
Holy Steps — frequently asked questions
Is Holy Steps included in the free launcher?
The launcher is free, but Holy Steps itself is a Play Pass game and needs an active subscription to unlock. Nothing is charged to your viewers, who take part with gifts through TikTok. If you want a free game on the same launcher, DEFUSE!, Jello Merge and Jaywalkin' do not need a Play Pass.
How do gifts work in Holy Steps?
Most gifts move him a set number of steps, and every hurt lands when its prop hits him. A Rose's Halo Hop lifts him one step and a TikTok's bomb knocks him back one; a Gold Boxing Gloves' bomb cluster takes five, a Doughnut's ice sheet ten, Confetti's ram twenty-five and a Money Gun's Cloud Collapse fifty. The cheap help is a Finger Heart's Angel Wings, a flat fifty steps that exactly cancels a Cloud Collapse. Above that, a Galaxy brings a thunderstorm, Fireworks is −1 win and Leon the Kitten is +1 win. Streamers can set their own numbers in Studio Mode, or switch on a dynamic heal for the wings.
Do I have to play it myself?
Only if you want to. You start at the controls: hold W to climb, Shift to run and A or D to step across the stairs. Switch on Auto run in the game's settings and he runs up the stairway by himself while you talk to chat.
What happens at a gate?
Every gate (every 1,000 steps by default) opens a countdown the moment he reaches it, 10 seconds by default and adjustable from 3 to 60. Thunderclouds drift over and zap him while it runs; if he drops below the gate the hold breaks and he runs back up to try again. Hold it to the end and that's a win: the next gate rises one gate step higher and he keeps running from where he stands. On the way up, the last 60 steps before each gate turn into a down escalator that sweeps him back 10 steps if it catches him.
How does the thunderstorm work?
A Galaxy brings a thunderstorm that shatters the stairway and drops him back to the last gate he passed, and a 30-second rescue window opens (you can set it from 5 to 120 seconds). If anyone sends a Guardian Angel (a Hand Heart by default) in time, the angel catches him and brings back exactly what the storm took. Your wins are kept unless you switch on "Disasters wipe your wins", which is off by default; with it on, the Guardian Angel brings the wins back too.
